History: Gregory House was born to John and Blythe House on a military base. He was born into a marriage that, on the outside, seemed happy enough. The truth was that his mother had long ago grown discontent and his father resentful... there was an elephant in the room and his name was Gregory House. Blythe had had an affair and so John never trusted that the boy he was raising was actually his son. He often lapsed into verbal abuse and occasionally physical, leaving Blythe feeling inept and needing to shelter her son. She started to home school him, not wanting him to go through the trouble of entering school after school, and sparked his interest in medicine by taking him with her to clinics. It was clear to Blythe that her son was gifted-- John, however, seemed to resent him his intelligence, insisting that he was a "pussy" and unworthy of any of the things he actually accomplished. Certain that Blythe was spoiling to boy, John forced him into public schooling.

Gregory House learned at an early age that making attachments to people was dangerous and painful. He knew that his mother loved him, but had trouble seeing it when she wouldn't stand up to his father. He was certain his father hated him... but loved him out of biological necessity. The friendships he tried to make were brief and eventually destroyed by the need to move or House's own fear of attachment. When he was eighteen, he escaped his family life and searched out stability, enrolling in college where he began and maintained some of the few steadier relationships in his life, briefly dating Stacy. His alcoholism and drug abuse started to rear its head in college when he would experience bouts of boredom, no doubt contributing to his trouble with relationships.

After college, he started a brief and unfulfilling career in medicine. He was drawn away from this because it failed to capture his interest enough-- instead, he was lured into criminal investigation, initially through autopsies and the "C.O.D" diagnosis that he performed. He found himself taking up education again, entering into criminal investigation and police work. His naturally ability to suceed and press himself forward eventually brought him into the hands of the C.I.A.

When he learned that Stacy had "died" he started to go on more benders, relying heavily on alcohol. This made him careless in work, and made even the most interesting puzzle lose any kind of charm for him. He realized in his drunken hazes that he probably cared for Stacy more than he had ever let on.

It was on a botched mission for the C.I.A. a few months after Stacy died that he injured his leg. He was shot and unable to properly care of the wound for a long time. This resulted in it becoming infected and the muscle becoming necrotic. Eventually, he had to care for himself, digging the bullet out and scouring the wound of infection while nearly overdosing himself with morphine. The following time was spent in a haze... the haze seemed to hang over his head, his body eventually adjusting itself to a constant state of intoxication.

Throughout his time with the C.I.A. and despite his addictions, House has proved himself invaluable. He naturally takes to languages, has an authorative air and a need to solve problems. He continues with his work because it is the only thing he knows and he cannot stand the thought of *not* working, of *not* pulling the world apart and finding the solution.

 Department of Backstory

Specializations: Quite naturally, House is a genius. He learns rapidly and quickly adapts to situations--this has made it easy for him to understand developing technology. His "take-no-shit" attitude makes him good at interrogations. Having a mind like a steal trap and an undying need for answers also helps with this, but furthermore, it makes him an attuned investigator. House has learned a few languages out of boredom and picks up on them quickly; the same goes for musical instruments. He plays the piano adeptly and attempts to play any instrument put within reach.

Languages spoken: House is a polyglut. He speaks fluent English, French, Spanish, Russian, Hindi, Yiddish, Portuguese, German, and Japanese. When he gets bored, he starts to teach himself another language-- he has partial understanding of multiple others.

Addictions: Alcohol, morphine, cocaine
